Ayurveda Wellness
"Ayurveda...has the heart of an artist, the soul of a saint, and a body that is delicate, flexible and marvelously enduring. It is a feeling, an intention that whispers to me from the depths of space, wraps around me, supports and inspires me." - Robert Sachs
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a branch of Vedic Science, in Sanskrit literally meaning "the science of life". Originating in India and also a fundamental root of traditional Chinese medicine, this traditional healing system is over 5,000 years old. Considered one of the oldest forms of medicine, this ancient lifestyle works both as a preventative and curative way of life. Ayurveda combines daily self care, a healthy diet, yoga and a natural lifestyle to acquire optimal health.

First, manipulation of special energy points access your mind, body, and consciousness to release mental tensions. Next, gentle warmth and massage is applied to the to the abdomen and feet to settle the mind and relax the face, which then leads into an anointing of the forehead with warm, herbal-infused sesame oil.
This deceptively simple technique recharges the body, brings clarity to the mind, and offers a quiet, safe space to experience your true self.

Yoga Nidra Session
Known for its restorative health benefits, yoga nidra is also referred to as "yogic sleep" or "conscious sleep" and allows the body to go into a deep state of relaxation. Based on the writings of Swami Satyananda Saraswati, the key is to become aware of the distinction between the observer and what is being observed such as thoughts, feelings, sensations and other human beings.
You as the participant will be guided into the Savasana pose, supported in any way you wish with pillows and blankets. Over the course of approximately 45 minutes, your instructor will lead you in a guided meditation, leading the brain from beta waves to alpha and delta waves. You will begin with deep breathing and work on remaining still in your body. As you sink deeper into relaxation, you will find yourself in a state between wakefulness and sleep, though the object is to remain awake and not succumb to deep sleep. Interestingly, one 30-60 minute session of yoga nidra is equal to 2-4 hours of sleep.
Please wait 2-3 hours after consuming a heavy meal or 1 hour after a light meal before practicing yoga nidra. Benefits of yoga nidra can include: improved thought patterns, reduced stress, enhanced cognitive function and memory, improved sleep and physical health, decreased anxiety and depression, lowered blood pressure, balanced nervous system and can be used in the treatment of pain and PTSD management.
